Dollar Smart Halloween Party

I am looking for an inexpensive way to help my kids have a great Halloween costume. Neither my son nor daughter really cares what their costumes are because they are still very young. We are trying very hard to save some money for the Holidays and can’t really afford $30 per child for store bought costumes. Do you have any ideas?

Halloween costumes can certainly be very expensive but they do not have to be. Second hand stores are a great place to look for a costume. Though there are some that are ready made, it is also fun to create a costume. A pair of tights and a long tee shirt that has been cut at the bottom can be a wonderful Peter Pan costume. In the same theme, a cute nightgown and a big hair bow will make a good Wendy. A cheap set of long johns and a few sheets of sticky felt can make a really good puppy or kitty. Look for interesting hats and clothing at thrift stores for inspiration. Borrowing or hosting a costume exchange is also a great way to have a new to you costume at very little cost.
