Hot Dog Mummies

recipe-entreeMy daughter had a Halloween party this past weekend, and I was looking for some simple but fun food to make for it.  I came across a picture of hot dog mummies and knew this was a perfect fit.  Hot dogs wrapped in crescent roll dough with dots of cheese for eyes – easy to put together and just as easy to eat.  They were the centerpiece of the Halloween table and a big hit with the kids!

Ingredients

1 package hot dogs

1 package crescent rolls

Easy cheese (cheese from a can), for eyes

Preheat oven to 350ºF.

Open crescent roll package and unroll dough onto cutting board into one long rectangle.  Pinch seams together.  Slice lengthwise into 10 strips (one for each hot dog).

Take hot dogs out of package and wipe off liquid with paper towel.  Starting at one end of the hot dog, wrap one strip of crescent roll dough around hot dog going all the way to the other end.  (Dough my come apart where the seams were; that’s okay, just press back together.  These are mummies, after all, and should look less than perfect!)  Be sure to leave approximately ¾” of hot dog uncovered just below the last strip of dough.

Place on cookie sheet and bake 13-15 minutes, until dough is lightly browned.  Let cool for about a minute, then use cheese to make eyes in the space left uncovered just below the last strip of dough.  Place on serving tray and enjoy!
