Thursday evening, the community of Jefferson City had a preview of ghosts and witches at BOOnett. Every year, Carson-Newman campus holds a community trick-or-treat adventure in the freshman/international student dormitory. Each year, there is a new theme to keep not only younger kids but also faculty, students, and even adults coming again and again. This year’s theme was a “worldly adventure” of sorts. Upon entering the dorm, one immediately became a passenger on their own special flight to various “worlds” created in the halls. The students got creative this year turning their halls into everything from the Americas, Australia, and China, to outer space and the coral reefs. Each world had its own photo opportunities along with interactive areas. After “disembarking,” the adventurers could enjoy games, such as corn hole, while munching on snow cones and popcorn in the downstairs lounge. For the curious types, there was also a not-so-scary haunted house with more candy and little activities for anyone brave enough to enter the dark room. BOOnett hosted a large crowd with not a frown to be seen. Upon talking to Mary Lee Betz, the residence life leader over the dorm, it was made clear that BOOnett will continue as long as it’s successful. By the looks of last week’s turnout, it may be well worth marking calendars for next October.
