With the Halloween season quickly approaching, it’s important to keep in mind safety measures. When taking the little ones, or even the not-so-little ones, out to trick-or-treat, it pays to be cautious. Many people don’t put much thought into where they will be going to trick-or-treat,however, by sitting down with your little witch or goblin and mapping out exactly where you will be going, you can make it clear not to leave the area, just in case you get separated. This should help you relocate each other more quickly. This will also help you pick out a safe and lighted neighborhood. Children in costume are easy to miss in the dim light so be sure that reflectors and flashlights are a part of your child’s Halloween gear. Costumes should not drag the ground to help prevent falls and older trick-or-treaters that are accompanying younger siblings should not cover their face with masks. Many communities and churches offer good options for safe trick-or-treating. It is usually best to limit door to door trick-or-treating to people that you know. Also, before digging into treats, always check the wrappers and expiration dates. If it looks like it has been tampered with, toss it! Don’t second guess it. Have fun and be safe this Halloween night.
