Jefferson County High School Drama Teacher Billie Yardley was featured on the Today Show’s 10 am segment with Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford. Mrs. Yardley, a long time student favorite, has been nominated for Today Show Teacher of the Year and she is a finalist! Katie Inman, a student at Jefferson County High School, wrote the essay describing the inspiration that Yardley has been to her and other students and it was submitted by her mother, Penny Inman, who is also a teacher in the Jefferson County School System. Katie was in the process of submission during the time of the roof collapse at Jefferson County High School, which destroyed Mrs. Yardley’s drama room and her collection of props and costumes. Katie realized that those nominating a teacher must be 18 years of age or older, so her mother happily stepped in to submit Katie’s recommendation. Penny Inman said that she received a call from the show’s producer requesting more information on Mrs. Yardley and the producer also spoke to Jefferson County High School Principal John Cagle. The Inmans were notified on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 that Billie Yardley is one of three finalists for the Today Show’s Teacher of the Year and it was announced on the show on Wednesday, October 30, 2013. Viewers will vote for their favorite teacher, online, until November 4th and the winner will be announced on November 5th. All three finalists, and the people that nominated them, will be flown to New York on November 11th or November 12th to appear on the show. The Inmans are encouraging everyone to go online and vote for Mrs. Yardley at
