Jefferson County High School welcomed the community to pay tribute to local veterans on Thursday evening, as students presented the 21st annual Night of the Patriots. The show has a long standing reputation as being one of outstanding music, drama and dance, combined with somber and thankful reminders of the sacrifice of our Nation’s veterans. This year’s performance certainly held up to previous year’s gold standards, combining the best of the past with some wonderful new segments and showcasing the exceptional talent that is present at Jefferson County High School. From set design to costumes and choreography to music selection, the Night of the Patriots is a production that requires dedication and commitment from the students and their faculty sponsors. Rehearsal for the event begins weeks prior to the show and the show’s directors are conscious of maintaining the integrity of the show by keeping the focus on our heroic veterans. Jefferson County High School students compete in an essay contest that is designed to promote Patriotism. Local veterans are honored, both during the performance and prior to the event with a dinner. The Night of the Patriots is one of the most highly anticipated events of the year and the 21st annual performance was proof positive that great things are worth waiting for. Jefferson County High School teachers David Seal, who serves as the Program Director and Billie Yardley, Artistic Director, were joined by Kellie Shipe, Choral Director, Band Director Greg Jones, Patriettes Director Veronica Whitton and a large group of faculty, staff and administrators in providing faculty supervision. A host of Jefferson County High School students contributed to the evening’s performance in a variety of ways, highlighting the depth of talent that resides at Jefferson County High School.
