Legacy Theatre’s SMOKE ON THE MOUNTAIN

Legacy Theatre, in Jefferson City, announces their upcoming production of Smoke On the Mountain, written by  Alan BaileyMark HardwickMike CraverConnie Ray.

This delightful musical comedy is one of the most popular theatrical productions in the country and is sure to give audiences an evening of fun and laughter.    Smoke On the Mountain tells the story of a Saturday night Gospel “sing” at a little country church in the SmokyMountains.   Pastor Oglethorpe, (played by a Legacy favorite, Benjamin Aaron Myers) has enlisted the Sanders family in his efforts in bringing his congregation “into the modern world”.    By the end of the evening, this hilarious family has endeared themselves to all by revealing their weaknesses and allowing us to share in their triumphs.

“If you love bluegrass music – or even if you don’t – I think this play will be one of the most fun things that you’ll do this Fall,” shares Legacy’s artistic director, Peggy Horton Price.  “We have a strong cast of wonderful singers and musicians who definitely know how to be funny and bring these characters to life.”

Returning to the Legacy stage for this production, playing ‘Burl and Vera Sanders’  are Tom Hacker and  Mindy Livesay Williams.  Mary Morris and Joshua Stephen Jones play the twins, ‘Dennis and Denise’, and appearing for the first time at Legacy, is Autumn Leming in the role of the older Sanders’ sister, ‘June.’  She “don’t sing.  She signs”.    Christopher Sood plays ‘Uncle Stanley’, the returning Sanders prodigal.   Linda Quesenberry (also a Legacy first-timer) and Deborah Miller join the cast as two “church ladies”.     Arlan Williams leads a talented bluegrass Gospel band made up of Sara Baskin, Perry Cooper and William Knight.  Deborah Miller is the technical director, and Jamie Sood, stage manager.  Over wardrobe is Teresa Douglas, and Mindy Livesay Williams serves as marketing manager.  Kim Fuerst, administrator, Mike Fuerst sound engineer and James Johnson, house manager, round out the Legacy production team.

Legacy Theatre’s venue is Heritage Fellowship located at 316 W. Old Andrew Johnson Highway, Jefferson City.   Performance dates are November 15, 16, and 21, 22, 23.  Evening performances are at 7:30 pm and Saturday afternoon performances at 2 pm.  Tickets may be purchased online at www.legacytheatre.us or by calling 865-471-0700.
