Modern Woodmen Members Honor Local Hometown Hero

On November 12 ,2013 Mr. Jim Wilson, was honored with a special luncheon at the Creek Cafe for countless hours of service to the community by local Modern Woodmen of America members. Mr. Wilson was honored for his dedicated service through Appalachian Outreach to help the needy people in the Appalachian region. In recognition of his efforts members of Modern Woodmen’s Jefferson City summit chapter presented Mr. Wilson with the Hometown Hero award along with a certificate and awarded a $100.00 grant to Carson Newman Campus Ministries the charitable organization of his choice.

Mr. Wilson is a Carson Newman graduate. He also served two years as a journeyman on the International Mission Board. He came to Carson Newman 29 years ago and founded the Appalachian Outreach. He has led thousands of volunteers to serve not only in the Appalachian Outreach but across the world.

Coordinated by local Modern Woodmen members, chapters provide opportunities to take part in social activities and community service in the communities.

“Improving the quality of life for our members, their families and their communities is Modern Woodmen’s mission,” says Chuck Devotie, Financial representative of Modern Woodmen. ” The Hometown Heroes program helps us acknowledge and thank volunteers across the country for doing just that.”
