Jefferson County EMS received the Region II EMS Directors Association 2013 Service of the Year Award during the Association’s annual conference, held in Gatlinburg November 21-22. The award recognized Jefferson County EMS for their progressive protocols that offer patients the most up-to-date medical and trauma care; trailblazing utilization of new equipment such as the recently acquired Stryker Power-PRO XT powered ambulance cot that improves safety for both patients and crews; and the outstanding teamwork and care provided to those involved in the bus crash that occurred on Interstate 40 on October 3 of this year.

Jefferson County EMS Director Brad Phillips accepted the award at the ceremony. Director Phillips said, “I am accepting this award on behalf of all the men and women who work hard on a daily basis to provide the best care possible to the citizens of our county. This award is for them.” In attendance at the awards dinner were JeffersonCountyEMS employees Paramedic/Supervisor Rodney Satterfield, Paramedic Steve Hopkins, and part-time Paramedic Angie Bowen.

The Tennessee Region II EMS Directors Association is composed of ambulance service, emergency medical service, rescue, aeromedical and hospital agencies located in 16 East Tennessee counties. Jefferson County EMS was nominated by a neighboring municipal EMS agency who stated in the nomination, “We recognize and appreciate the high quality of care provided by Jefferson County EMS and are grateful to have these men and women as colleagues.”
