In the spirit of thankfulness and community giving, one New Market man gave back in a big way to the New Market Community. Brent Spencer, with the assistance of the New Market Volunteer Fire Department, handed out food to needy families, just in time for Thanksgiving. The Saturday morning charitable event was appreciatively received by the community. Spencer is owner of Extreme Towing and he has watched as his neighbors have worked diligently to spring back from a lagging economy. Though he applauds the progress the community has made, he knew that there were still families that were in need this holiday season. Spencer purchased 15 to 17k pounds of food and then, with a group of volunteers, set to work boxing and bagging the bounty. 300-400 households were the beneficiaries of his generous gift, each receiving two bags or boxes of food. The line started early but Spencer and crew were ready and able to accommodate the needs of hundreds of families. The gift, generous in both time and money, was a reminder that there is always much to be thankful for, particularly a giving spirit and love of community.
