Appalachian Outreach had some special help last weekend with their 4.5 k bike ride from the Elf Shoppe in Jefferson City, through the local streets. Joyful elves of all sizes heralded the event from the sidewalk in front of the Elf Shoppe, with ringing bells and happily caroling voices. Local Businessman Ed Franklin was joined by Jefferson County Election Administrator Charles Gibson in the early morning pre ride sidewalk chorus line and they welcomed a dedicated group of riders who braved the brisk wind and freezing temperatures for one of their favorite philanthropies. Event organizer Ashney Gaut, of Expressions Performing Arts Studio, said that the enthusiastic group raised $1317 from the Bike-a-Thon and a daily combined total from the ride and Shoppe of more than $3,000, which will go directly to Appalachian Outreach.
