Jefferson City Announces Christmas Events for 2013

Jefferson City Christmas Events 2013Jefferson City and the Historic Mossy Creek District have announced this year’s Jefferson City Hometown Christmas Events.    While you can still expect the annual Christmas parade that is held the second Saturday in December, this year the city will also kick off the holiday season with a new tradition of lighting the official Jefferson City Christmas tree in the Historic Mossy Creek District.   These events are free and open to the public.

The Christmas tree lighting celebration will take place on December 7 from 4:00 through 9:00 pm on Main Street and will highlight the lighting of a 20-foot Christmas tree in the center of the downtown as well as food, entertainment, photos with Santa and carriage rides through the city.  There will also be outdoor Christmas movies that will be shown on a large screen for attendees to enjoy after dark.   Local downtown businesses and residents are encouraged to decorate and help create a festive atmosphere for this growing event.

The Jefferson City Christmas parade will be on December 14 at 2:00pm, and will start and end in the Historic Mossy Creek District. The parade is free to participants and line-up will begin downtown at 1:00 pm. Those Participating should fill out an entry form, available at City Hall and other locations downtown.

The city hopes to expand and develop these events in the future to bring holiday visitors to the the downtown and the city as they continue to work to implement a master plan to revitalize the aging district.  The location for the Christmas tree lighting celebration on Main Street is the proposed site for a park square that could offer a train depot inspired pavilion,  large stage, restroom facilities, as well as other features for future events.    For more information or to get involved please contact the city at 865.475.9071 or visit the organization’s website at OldMossyCreek.com.
