The Patriot Academy was the site of this year’s football banquet on Monday, November 25. Coaches, players, family, and friends all gathered in the cafeteria to honor and celebrate Jefferson County High School’s Patriot football players.

Catered by Buddy’s Bar-B-Q, patrons enjoyed food and drinks while coaches from the freshman and varsity handed out awards and certificates. Coach Cobble started the night saying, “In terms of character and quality, [he’s] never been associated with a better group [of players].” The most impressive feat of this year’s team is the amount of players who received an All Academic award. To receive an All Academic award, players must have at least a 3.0 grade point average. This year 81 out of 125 players were on the honor roll, which includes: 24 freshmen, 22 sophomores, 17 juniors, and 18 seniors.

Team players voted for their teammates for the awards received, which are as follows- Lifter of the Year: Corey Baldwin, Most Improved: Joey Jennings, PRIDE Team Player: Ryan Greear, Hard Hat Award Player: Malik Styles, Team Player Award: Malik Styles, Pancake Award: Trey King, Hard Nose Award: Kagen Seal, and Hammer Award: Dearies Jones. Coach Cobble also announced this year’s captains, and almost making it through without tearing up, he said he was “so proud guys like this are representing the team and community.” This year’s captains were Matt Oakes, Zach Hubard, Kagan Seal, Trey King, and Malik Styles.

Cobble also said that even though the “record was not what [they] wanted it to be, that didn’t change the amount of hard work and dedication from players.” All of the coaches were in agreement that the 2013 JCHS football team were an exceptional group of players.
