The Jefferson County Republican Women’s groups held their annual Christmas open house on December 8th at the home of Paula Rugel-Gibson, Chair of the Jefferson County Republican Party, in Jefferson City.  Attendees enjoyed an evening of light hors d’oeuvres, fellowship and, of course, a little politicking.

Several of local office holders and candidates qualifying for the upcoming May Republican Primary were on hand to meet the crowd. Paula Rugel-Gibson opened the floor later in the evening for candidates to introduce themselves and the office they would be seeking in the upcoming 2014 Republican primaries.  Based on candidates announcing, Jefferson County will have at least three contested county government races in the upcoming May Republican primary, including Sheriff, Sessions Judge, and County Court Clerk.

Paula Rugel-Gibson announced to everyone in attendance that the Jefferson County Republican Party’s annual meeting is scheduled to take place on January 18th at 9:00am at the Jefferson County courthouse and, in the event of inclement weather, will be rescheduled to the following Saturday. She also advised the crowd that the annual Lincoln-Reagan Day Dinner is being planned for the latter half of March 2014 and that more details will be made available as they are finalized. She concluded by assuring the candidates and others in attendance that the women’s groups and the Republican party are in the planning stages for a candidate forum in early-April, prior to the kick-off of early voting for the primary. Tentative plans for the forum will likely include a short session of debates for contested county races in the May Republican primary.
