CARRIE PAINTER MOORE

CARRIE PAINTER MOORE, age 90, of Dandridge, TN passed away peacefully on December 21, 2013 after an extended illness. Carrie was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County. She attended Austin Peay College and the University of Tennessee. In 1944, she married Winfred E. Moore, who was wounded in World War II on the Island of Saipan. He returned home unable to see. She was his eyes and helpmate until his death in 1986. Carrie was a troop leader for the Girl Scouts of America, active in the PTA at Piedmont School and the Republican Women’s Club. She was presented an achievement award for her efforts at the Lincoln Dinner. Carrie loved to sew and cook and she was skilled at both. She and Winfred raised Japanese Bantam show chickens, and traveled across the country to chicken shows winning many awards. She was a helping neighbor and good friend to all who needed her. She loved her church family at Wesley’s Chapel Methodist Church, gospel music and was an avid fan of the Lady Vols. After her husband’s death, she worked with her friend Anna Gray, who owned the Fashion Barn in Dandridge. Preceded in death by parents, Hobart and Maggie Letcho Painter, and husband Winfred E. Moore. Left to mourn her passing are daughter, Patricia Kaye Mann of Dandridge; granddaughter, Laura (Jeff) Burross of Jefferson City; great-granddaughter, Kelsey Martin of Dandridge; step-great-grandchildren, Maggie Burross, US Navy, San Diego, CA, Kristina and Matthew Burross of Jefferson City; sisters, Geraldine Hardy of Dandridge, Beatrice Hale of Hollywood, Alabama; nieces, Julianne Martin of Dandridge, Becky Downs of Alabama; and nephew, Tony Hale of Alabama; sister and brother-in-law, James and Sylvia Snodderly of New Market. We wish to thank the wonderful staff of Life Care Center of Jefferson City for their excellent care of “Miss Carrie” and special thanks to Amedisys Hospice Care of Morristown, who cared so much and supported us and helped us until the end. The family will receive friends Monday, December 23, 2013 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Farrar Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Sherry Seay officiating. Interment graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Hillcrest Cemetery.
