TBI Investigating Death of Inmate at Jefferson County Jail

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigations has confirmed that they are investigating an incident at the Jefferson County Jail. TBI Executive Officer Illana Cate stated that the Bureau was called in at the request of the District Attorney General concerning the death of a male inmate at the Jefferson County Jail. The incident in question occurred on the evening of January 12, 2014 and the TBI has been leading the investigation since that time. Executive Officer Cate stated that the TBI investigation is ongoing, they are fielding calls and email concerning the investigation and they are not currently releasing any further information, including the manner of death. It is unclear, at this time, when more information will be forthcoming regarding this continuing investigation.
