C-N University Women’s golf prepares for championship season

A slew of challenging tournaments line Carson-Newman women’s golf’s path as the squad looks toward April and the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Golf Championship in Sevierville, Tenn.

The Eagles open the season Feb. 1 at the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate in Cougar Point, S.C.

“I’ve been talking to our players and they’ve been working hard in the artic conditions we have here,” C-N head women’s golf coach Suzanne Strudwick said with a chuckle. “We’re going down to Hilton Head to start training for a difficult first tournament at Kiawah Island.”

From there the Eagles head to Slammer and Squire, Fla. to play in the World Golf Invitational with Flagler serving as host.

“The fact that this is a championship season is what’s exciting,” Strudwick said. “This allows us to both get better and to get ready for the SAC tournament and postseason play starting in April.”

The schedule is front loaded for the Eagles, with an early March tournament at the Armstrong Atlantic Pirate Women’s Invitational.  C-N has a month off before a tune-up April 7 at the Tusculum Invitational leading up to the SAC tournament.

“Going from March to April will enable us to think mentally and be physically prepared for postseason play,” Strudwick said. “We have a gap in March to allow us to tweak and fine tune some things.”
