The weather outside is freezing and while most are lost in thoughts of warm fires and hot coffee, others in the community are looking forward to a warmer time- Prom Season!  It is a milestone in the lives of many local teens, a night of beautiful dresses, limo rides and fancy meals shared with friends.  It can also be a time of great expense for both teens and their parents.  While some are struggling to provide for their families, there often is not a lot of extra money to spend on a beaded gown and matching shoes. Fortunately for local teens, Oakland United Methodist Church believes everyone should experience the special magic of prom night and so they have created Cinderella’s Closet.   They are collecting gently worn prom attire that will be available to young people who need a little help making their prom dreams come true.  Clothing donations, costume jewelry and shoes, as well as monetary donations, will be collected by members of the church until March 6, 2014.  There will be a special Community Drop-Off Day on February 22 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the church.   Cinderella’s Closet will then open on March 8th for a day of prom shopping and refreshments.  The church will also be providing free hair and make-up help on prom day, April 11th, beginning at 1:00 p.m. and continuing until the last young lady leaves.  If you would like to make a donation or volunteer your time and talents on prom day please contact Leslie Adderhold  at 865-255-3024.
