Poore’s Return to Greeneville a Success

Jefferson County’s head coach, Chris Poore, returned to Greeneville for a successful win , as the Patriots defeated the Green Devils 50-35. Poore attended Greeneville High from 2001-2003, where he played on the 2001 team that reached the state semifinals and the 2003 team that reached the state quarterfinals.

Jefferson County would win the opening tip, and took a 13-12 lead in to the second quarter. Noah Carter would score 6 of his 12 points in the second quarter and Jefferson County led 28-22 at the half. Both teams would score 10 points each in the third quarter. The Patriots would take a six point lead to the fourth quarter, 38-32. The Patriots went on a 10-1 run over the first 5:30 minutes of the fourth quarter, and outscored the Green Devils 12-3 in the final stanza and rolled to yet another victory, 50-35.

Greeneville came in to the game on a five game winning streak since losing to Jefferson County, 58-29, on January 11th. The Green Devils are still 6-0 and sitting atop district 2 in class 2A. Jefferson County improves to 23-3 on the year and has now won 11 in a row.

The 23-3 Patriots were led in scoring by Kyle Briggs with 17 points, followed by Brice Cusick with 15 points. Noah Carter had 12 points, while John Bryant chipped in 6 points.
