Problem Nail Ridges

I have recently noticed that I have some small ridges running up and down on my thumb nails. Is this common and what can I do to get rid of them?

According to experts, ridges running up and down are more common than those that run across the nail and can often be attributed to ageing or vitamin deficiency. Nail ridges can sometimes be an indicator of a more serious medical condition. I would suggest that you consult with a physician regarding this condition to assure that no treatment is necessary. In the meantime, do not attempt to file the ridges down, as they are often the weakest part of the nail and could cause the nail to split.
