Better Boys and Early Girls

All of this snow and cold weather has me ready for spring and I am starting to plan my very first garden. I love tomatoes and was wondering what the difference is between Better Boys and Early Girl tomatoes?

Both Better Boys and Early Girls are considered slicing tomatoes and both are good for home gardens. Both tomato varieties are known for being hardy and, truthfully, their similarities out number their differences. Early Girl is considered the sister to the Better Boy and was named accordingly. While both are considered flavorful, the biggest difference is in yield and season. Early Girls generally produce early in the season, thus their name, and Better Boys are considered to be mid season. Though both have a generous yield, Better Boys are considered the better producer. Many gardeners choose to plant both Early Girls and Better Boys to get the best of the growing season.
