It was evident from warm ups, to the last whistle, the Lady Patriots meant business in their Region 1 -3A semifinal game against the Lady Indians of Dobyns-Bennett. On February 5th the Lady Patriots fell to Dobyns-Bennett, 46-30, 19 days later the Lady Pats dominated a bigger, faster Lady Indian team, 54-35.

For much of the first quarter neither team could quite get it going on the offensive side. With the score tied, 6-6, midway through the first the Lady Patriots would get it going leading 10-6 at the end of one. Midway through the second, after a Lady Patriot 12-0 run, it was apparent who the better team would be on this night. Jefferson County outscored D-B 15-5 in the second quarter and took a 25-11 lead into the half. The third quarter saw the Lady Pats pad their lead even more, continuing to use superb defense and a high percentage offense. The lead was 20 at 39-19 with one quarter left to play. The Lady Indians would outscore the Lady Patriots 16-15 in the final quarter, however it did not help their cause, and Jefferson County cruised to a 54-35 victory.

“Our defensive effort throughout the tournament has been really good.” Coach Sinard said. “Our two freshman played really well tonight, their not freshman anymore.” Sinard added. With the win Jefferson County has clinched a spot to advance to the sub-state portion of the TSSAA postseason. They will play Wednesday night against rival Morristown West for the Region 1-3A championship, a rematch of the District 2-3A Tournament championship game as well. Morristown West defeated previously undefeated and #2 team in the state, Science Hill to reach the final.

Freshman Makaila “Wooley Bear” Woolard would lead the Lady Patriot attack with 15 points, followed by senior Autumn Dodson with 11. Alexandria Alder added 9, while Tori Griffin chipped in 8 points. Brooke Taylor netted 7 points, while Jordan Jennings and Kati Fawbush each scored 2.

The Lady Patriots are now 21-10 on the year, and is the first team to reach sub-state under Rick Sinard (boys or girls).
