Mount Horeb Elementary School held career day for the kindergarten class February 27, 2014. A variety of professionals representing an array of careers came out to speak to the youngest Hawks. Ripley’s Aquarium representatives Jessica Hamilton and Shanda Larson had an engaging presentation about many different marine wildlife and their living habits. Attorney Keith Coates and Dr.Allum gave the students a bird’s eye view of what an attorney and doctor does on a daily basis. Debbie Miller talked to students about the workings of the Jefferson County Courthouse and Officers Gibson, Owenby and Bunch were on hand to discuss their service to the County. Carson Newman University basketball coach Mike Mincy and Coach Ashley Tipton brought several CNU athletes to speak to the kids. Students enjoyed hearing from Professional Angler Skylar Hamilton about his job and the unique places he gets to travel. Jefferson County Mayor Alan Palmieri and Jefferson County Sheriff GW (Bud) McCoig read to the students and gave them an overview of what the high elected official jobs entail. Safety Patrol Members Kirby Renalds and Wesley Hickle of Mount Horeb Elementary School, as well as Editor for the Jefferson County Post, Jeff Depew, rounded out the list of guest speakers.
