One day later, one more run, one victory for the Jefferson County Patriots. One day after getting beat, 20-1, by a Seymour Eagle team that couldn’t seem to miss the ball with the bat, the Patriots got their revenge. There wasn’t much resemblance in the two games, with Seymour having 17 hits on Monday night by themselves and both teams combined for 6 hits on Tuesday.

The Patriots would start the game off with Logan Hayes reaching base on an error. Trevor Whitley would then be hit by the pitch, and Jefferson County had a runner in scoring position. Silver Munguia laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners. Sophomore, Wade Stinson, would gain an RBI on a ground out to first base, and Junior Malik Kyle would drive in another run when he ripped a double to give the Patriots a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the first. Sophomore Ryan Buchanan started on the mound for the Patriots and would allow only one hit in the first inning. He then would retire 14 batters in a row over the next 4 2/3 innings, including three strikeouts. Jefferson County would still lead 2-0 going into the bottom of the 7th inning. Seymour would try to rally in the 7th, already scoring one and runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. Jefferson County would turn a 2-5-3 double play to end the rally attempt and secure their first win of the young season, 2-1.

“Baseball is a funny game” Jefferson County Head Coach, Gaines Cox said. He added “You look at those 2 games and they score 21 runs and we scored 3 and yet still won, and that’s odd”. He gave credit to his staff and players saying “Coach Reese called a phenomenal game, Ryan (Buchanan) pitched a phenomenal game and Silver (Munguia) did a great job back there.” Coach Cox also sounded like a very proud coach while adding “I couldn’t be prouder for our coaches and our players. They responded after a tough day yesterday, a lot of people left that park yesterday numb.” He concluded saying “I’m proud of us for coming through, again baseball is a funny game.”
