Maury Middle School Announces Speech Contest Winners

Thirty-four Maury Middle School students participated in this year’s Modern Woodmen of America School Speech contest on Friday, March 7th, with the topic being “The importance of a healthy living”. The contestants were asked to consider what their opinion was of a healthy lifestyle, how such a lifestyle would impact them and those around them, and what could be done to improve healthy lifestyles in their communities. Judging criteria consisted of material organization, delivery and presentation, and overall effectiveness; all of which was to be orated by the speakers in a timely manner of three to five minutes.

The first place award of the MWA speech contest was proudly presented to 7th grade student Gracie Lee Strange. Second place was awarded to 8th grade student Charley Farley, and third place went to Carrie Thiel. Every participant received a well-earned certificate from the MWA for their participation.
