Errors Doom The Patriots, 9-4

Jefferson County held a lead for much of the game against arguably the preseason favorite to win the conference this season. South Doyle would have a big fifth inning and take control of the game for the remainder. South- Doyle was led by senior pitcher and Middle Tennessee State University signee, Blake Stansberry. Stansberry pitched a complete game allowing just five hits and striking out six.

Patriots Trevor Whitley would reach on an error and soon be driven in by Silver Munguia in the first inning. The score would be tied after one inning of play, 1-1. Jefferson County would get three runs on just three hits in the bottom half of the second and hold a commanding 4-1 advantage after two. South-Doyle would only manage one hit the next two innings and Jefferson County would be in control 4-1 after four innings of play. In the top of the fifth inning the Cherokees would score four runs on four hits and take their first lead of the game since it was 1-0 at 5-4. Stansberry would retire 13 of the last 16 batters he would face in the ball game, and the Cherokees would add four more runs over the remaining two innings to survive, 9-4.

The Patriots used three pitchers in the contest giving up 11 hits, while striking out just 3 batters. Logan Hayes would lead the Patriots from the dish, going 2-4 with 2 singles and 2 RBI’s.
