Mayor’s Office Launches Investigation

The Jefferson County Mayor’s Office and the Jefferson County Finance Department have confirmed that there is an ongoing investigation regarding alleged misappropriation of funds in the Finance Department. Amid a swell of rumors regarding the situation, Mayor Palmieri and Director Helton confirmed that there is investigation involving a singular facet of the Finance Department and that the scope of the investigation has been communicated to the Chairman of the County Commission, but they declined to address the particulars of the investigation on the advice of council. They did confirm that the Mayor’s Office and the Finance Office had instigated the investigation after certain questions had come to light.

State of Tennessee Representative for the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office stated Thursday, March 20, 2014 that it is a matter of policy that the State will not confirm or deny an on going investigation and if an investigation by the State revels misappropriations, information will be released to the public following the close of the investigation.
