Trojans Too Strong for Patriots

Jefferson County fell to Morristown West for the second time in three days on Wednesday afternoon. Morristown West pounded out 12 hits including four doubles en route to an 11-0 victory over conference foe Jefferson County. The Patriots could only muster two hits in the contest, with the first one coming in the fourth inning.

The Trojans were able to score 4 runs on 5 hits in the first inning and held a commanding 4-0 lead after one. Kyle Briggs would lead off the top of the second inning reaching on error. The Patriots could not take advantage of the Trojan miscues and still trailed 4-0 heading to the bottom half of the second. Morristown West would add 3 runs in the bottom half and lead after two innings, 7-0. Jefferson County would go three up, three down, in the third, while the Trojans added another run and lead 8-0 after the third. Kyle Briggs would get the first hit of the game for Jefferson County in the top of the fourth with two outs. The Patriots again would not be able to capitalize and trail, 8-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth. The Trojans would add three more runs in the bottom of the fourth and hold an 11-0 lead. Jefferson County would not manage any hits or runs in the fifth inning and the game would end by run rule , 11-0.

Ryan Buchanan would get the loss on the mound for Jefferson County and is now 2-1 on the season. Dylan Frazier would pitch 1 2/3 innings striking out one in relief. Kyle Briggs and Wade Stinson would lead the Patriots from the dish, both going 1 for 2. Jefferson County falls to 6-4 (3-4 IMAC) on the season and returns to action Thursday night at 7:15 at Pigeon Forge High School to take on Halls as part of the Smoky Mountain Invitational.
