CRUISIN’ AND GROOVIN’ IN HISTORIC DANDRIDGE, May 17, 2014

Dandridge-Car-Show-v2Love history? Love classic cars? Love oldies music? And what about prizes and great food? Then head to the lovely and historic town of Dandridge, Tennessee on May 17 and you’ll find it all.

When local Dandridge merchants decided on a cruise-in type event for a new spring attraction in 2010, little did they know it would be so successful. Over 200 great classic and collector cars cruised into the historic little downtown that first year and for this fifth year they anticipate at least 250 (and more room for more!). The historic district, as designated by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, is the perfect venue for groovy oldies music and cars of every age, make and color.

Door prizes are given away all day, from 9 am to 4 pm, about every 15-20 minutes, from Dollywood season tickets to a free stay at a local bed and breakfast to prize baskets from local merchants. Tickets are sold for chances at door prizes as well as the grand 50/50 prize to be awarded at 3:45 pm. Half of the 50/50 funds will go to the lucky winner and half to the Historic Dandridge Streetscape Project, a fundraising project which will provide for beautification and improvements to the historic district.

There will be a variety of chow, sit-down restaurants, and great shops to browse through.  Classic and collector cars will be charged a $10 entry fee which includes a goodie bag, dash plaque, prize drawing tickets and a chance to win one of several trophies. One trophy, the ‘Mayor’s Choice’ will be awarded by the town mayor and the second one, the ‘Fountain Favorite’ will be awarded by an employee of the famous old-fashioned soda fountain, located inside Tinsley-Bible Drug Store, celebrating over 100 years in business. This year there’s a special contest you will NOT want to miss!!

If you have never been to Dandridge, it’s located just off exit 417 of I-40 on beautiful Douglas Lake, just a short trip from Knoxville, Asheville and the Great Smoky Mountains. Contact one of the local bed and breakfast proprietors and come stay for the entire weekend. Rent a boat, take the historic walking tour, or even a ghostwalk tour—and you’ll be sure to return to Dandridge again and again.
