Final Candidate Petitions Filed

Jefferson County candidates seeking seats in the August 7, 2014 election turned in final petitions on April 3, 2014. A full ballot is on tap for the August election, with all 21 seats on the Jefferson County Commission being a part of the late summer election cycle, as well as the Highway Commission for Districts 1 & 3 and School Board seats for Districts 1 & 3. Executive Committee Men and Women, as well as State Representatives for Districts 11 and 17 (primary), will also be on the ballot.

The Jefferson County Election Office provided information confirming official candidates, providing none withdraw, for the August 7th election.

For the County Commission in District 1, incumbents Kesterson and Maples, as well as Nancy K (Katy Fox) Huffaker-Distirct 2 incumbent Jimmy Dale Patterson, as well as Steve Douglas and David Gaut-District 3 has incumbents Musick, Tabor and Baxley unopposed-District 4, incumbent Turner, as well as John McGraw-District 5 is one of the most heavily contested with incumbent Solomon, as well as Norma Griffin, Bill Potts, Tim Seals and Marge Stefaniak-District 6, incumbent Blevins, as well as Ralph Eslinger and Harold Taylor-District 7, incumbents Akard and Scarlett, as well as Randy Bales and Robert Travis Stansberry-District 8 incumbents Tucker and Dockery are unopposed-District 9, incumbent Carmichael, as well as David Seal-District 10 incumbents Beeler and Sheets, as well as Marcus Reed and Sam C. Cameron. Each District will have two County Commission representatives, save District 3 which has three representatives.

Highway Commission District 1 candidates are Condon Batson, David Cate, John Earl Smelcer and Malcom Noyes. Candidates for Highway Commission in District 3 are Joe Simpson and Paul Condry.

School Board Candidates for District 1 are incumbents Bradley and Potts, who will run unopposed. District 3 School Board Candidates are incumbents Jarnigan and Vines, as well as MaDonna Burton.

Two Democrats will be seeking the seat of Executive Committeeman, William Ray Fannon, Jr. and John K. Sonnen. Holbert Rice is the only Republican seeking the position.

Three Republican Women will be seeking the office of Executive Committeewoman-Lindsey Cadle, Betty Fain and Jennifer Little. One Democrat, Vonda Mallicoat Laughlin, is seeking the office.

State Representative Andrew Farmer for District 17 will be unopposed. State Representative for District 11, Jeremy Faison will be on the Republican ticket and Marjorie Ramsey will represent the Democrat party for District 11 in the August election.
