Rep. Andrew Farmer visited Cynthia Mayes and her 2nd grade class on April 4th at Dandridge Elementary School and presented each of them with a personal copy of the new Tennessee Blue Book. Ms. Mayes has been working with her students to help them better understand how Tennessee state government works and had asked if it would be possible to get copies of the publication for her class.

One student asked him who writes the Tennessee Blue Book to which Rep. Farmer answered, “This book is published by Secretary of State Tre Hargett’s office in Nashville.” The student then asked Rep. Farmer if he had written any of the book, to which he replied, “Well, aside from page seventy-nine that contains my biography, which is a really good page by the way, I didn’t personally have anything to do with writing any of it.”

While at the school, Rep. Farmer also met with Cynthia Mayes and several other teachers to listen to their concerns on a range of issues. Concerns included, but were not limited to, the new state budget amendment, the Tennessee Educator Acceleration Model (TEAM) evaluations, Common Core State Standards, and signage at the interstate exits recognizing Dandridge as the second oldest town in Tennessee.

Rep. Farmer will also be providing Cynthia Mayes and the school library each with a personal signed copy of the new orange Tennessee Blue Book for this year honoring Coach Pat Summitt. The Tennessee Blue Book, published every two years, is the definitive manual on Tennessee state government, with detailed information about all three branches of government, including biographies of all members of the Tennessee General Assembly. It also contains information on the federal government, Tennessee history, election statistics and much more and is also available online for viewing.
