Lady Patriots Defeat Union Co, 4-2
Jefferson County managed only 5 hits against Union County Monday afternoon. However, those 5 hits produced 4 runs and that would be more than enough for pitcher Madison Owens. Owens continues to dominate while on the mound, allowing only 1 earned run in 6.1 innings of work on Monday. “She pitched a great game.” Massaro said of her ace on the mound.
Union County would strike first in the ball game in the top of the third scoring one run and leading 1-0 heading to the bottom half of the inning. The Lady Patriots would respond with 4 runs in the bottom half and lead 4-1 after 3. Both teams would struggle to get much going the remainder of the contest despite and inside the park homerun for Union County in the top half of the sixth inning. Jefferson County would hold on to their lead and defeat Union County 4-2.
“I think our confidence is where it needs to be” Massaro said as they prepare for the final stretch of conference games on the year. “Although we didn’t hit the ball well against Cocke County, we hit the ball well in spurts tonight.” She added.
Leslie Odom led the charge from the plate for the Lady Patriots going 1-3 with a double and 3 runs batted in. In regards to Owens on the mound, she has now given up only 7 earned runs on the season in 71 innings of work. Jefferson County improves to 11-12 on the season and are 10-4 in their last 14 games.
