Hayes’ Shines On Senior Day, Pats Blank West 6-0
Jefferson County lone senior, Summer Hayes , was honored Thursday evening for a stellar career at JCHS. The senior was given a framed game jersey, as well as flowers and other gifts. But perhaps the best gift on Thursday was not material, but a 6-0 win over rival Morristown West.
It was evident by the signs on the fence before the game and the emotions after the game just how much Miss Hayes meant to this team and her teammates. Some players even posting on their twitter account, #DoItForSumSum. “It’s always great to get a win on senior night.” Massaro had to say on her teams’ victory.
Hayes led off the game in the top of the first with a single, and Jefferson County would plate 3 runs leading 3-0 after one. Hayes would single again in the second inning and later score on a Leslie Odom double to lead 4-0 after 2. Leslie Odom would dominate the game from the mound allowing only 4 hits in the contest while striking out 7 in a complete game outing. The Jefferson County defense was also stellar, having 0 errors for one of the few times this season. The Lady Patriots would add 2 runs in the sixth inning and cruise to a 6-0 win on senior night.
“ This is a big win” Massaro said. She added, “Not just for our conference standing, but we played solid defense, we came out and jumped on them early.”
As for senior Summer Hayes, led the Patriots from the plate , going a perfect 4-4 with 4 singles including 3 bunt singles. The Walters State signee feels honored to be a part of Jefferson County, “I definitely learned a lot from the players younger than me and definitely the coaches. I’m just so thankful to be a part of this team, they all mean so much to me , I’m just thankful for everyone.”
