Eagles wrap up the 2014 Season at the Tennessee Challenge

The Carson-Newman men and women’s track and field teams traveled to Knoxville to compete in the University of Tennessee’s Tennessee Challenge Meet among numerous Division 1 schools.

The Eagles shined from both the men and women’s sides, beating athletes from ranked universities throughout DI.

In women’s sprinting events, the women’s 4×100 Meter Relay finished with a time of 50 seconds flat, giving them third-place.

Freshman Tiana Mills finished in second-place in the women’s long jump with a leap of 5.60m. Mills was also winner of the Female Performance of the Year at this year’s Inaugural Frosty Awards. Freshman Jazzimine Hodges finished in fifth-place in the same event.

From the men, TJ Davis earned third-place in the men’s long jump with a leap of 7.22m. Davis also finished in 5th place in the men’s triple jump, following close behind Luther Walker who earned fourth-place with a leap of 13.40m. Davis was nominated for Upset of the Year at the Inaugural Frosty Awards after upsetting numerous Division 1 competitors at the Sea Ray Relays this year.

“We saw some of our best performances of the season. Especially TJ Davis and Tiana Mills. As a coach you like to see your athletes rise to the challenge,” Head Track and Field Coach David Needs said, “To have our athletes shine against UT, auburn, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, and Virginia Tech really is a testament to our quality.”

Carson-Newman will wait to see if any individuals qualified for the national meet.
