ETSU opens NCAA Championship play versus No. 16 Columbia

Buccaneer.289.1245.KMaking its eighth consecutive NCAA Championship appearance, the ETSU men’s tennis team will take on No. 16 Columbia in the opening round of the 2014 NCAA Men’s Tennis Championship at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 10 in Nashville, Tenn.

The 65th-ranked Bucs (14-8) finished the regular season with 11 consecutive wins en route to winning the program’s eighth consecutive Atlantic Sun Championship title.

Columbia went unbeaten in Ivy League play this season en route to winning the Ivy League Championship and clinching a spot in the NCAA Men’s Tennis Championship. The Lions (20-1), who are currently riding an 18-match win streak, will be making their ninth NCAA Championship appearance and first since 2012.

ETSU has twice picked up first-round wins in the NCAA Championship, beating No. 26 Notre Dame in 2008 and No. 32 Alabama in 2010.

The winner of the Bucs’ match-up with Columbia will take on the winner of host No. 20 Vanderbilt and No. 40 Virginia Tech Sunday, May 11 for a trip to the Round of Sixteen the following weekend in Athens, Ga.
