Jimmy Duncan, U.S. Representative for Tennessee’s 2nd Congressional District, including most of Jefferson County, visited around 50 Jefferson County High School students on Monday, May 12, 2014. These students were from Mr. Pulliam’s and Mr. Braun’s U.S. Government classes. They met in the newly renovated Media Center at JCHS.

The opportunity emerged from a student request. As Mr. Pulliam was presenting a lesson on the student’s representatives in Congress, a student asked if it would be possible for one of them (representatives) to visit school and the class. Mr. Pulliam followed up the request and very quickly received the news that Congressman Duncan would be available to visit the class.

Students prepared for the Congressman’s visit by studying his April 2014 Washington Report and the legislative issues that were addressed in that report. Groups of students researched an issue of their choosing, studied its pros and cons and positions of the two major parties. Students also prepared questions for the Congressman to answer. Monday’s visit offered an opportunity for students personally interact with a government leader and for Congressman Duncan to meet his future constituents.
