Jefferson County Senior Shayne Edwards signed his Letter of Intent to continue his football career at Berry College in Mt Berry, Georgia. Berry College held its inaugural football season in 2013 and that is something Edwards likes, “They are really young right now, so I hope to get some playing time as a freshman.”

The Berry Vikings inaugural season didn’t go as planned as they were 0-9, but that is not an issue with Edwards as he stated , “I just felt like I fit in a lot better down there, and just really liked the campus.” Other schools vying for Edwards services were Emory & Henry College in Emory, Va and Centre College in Danville, Ky.

As for Edwards’ High School Coach Kenny Cobble says Edwards is a very special player, “He has a relentless work ethic, he worked his way into the starting lineup his junior year just out of sure will.” He added “He earned it, he is under-sized, he’s not a guy that you’re going to look at physically and say wow.”

Edwards says that he plans to remain at defensive back at Berry, but Cobble says he is not limited to one spot, “He is a guy you can’t make tired. He played both sides of the ball for us at times and he is a punt block specialist.” Cobble closed saying, “ He took that relentless work ethic deciding his college, we are excited he chose Berry.”
