Using Bath Time as Creative Play
Bath time is an excellent opportunity for creative play. And… oh what fun!
Rainbow Bath Paint
You need: foaming shaving cream, food coloring, a container (a silicone muffin pan works great), and paint brushes.
Directions:
- Squirt foaming shaving cream in each of the 6 compartments of the muffin tin.
- Add food color to each one to make rainbow colors and mix well.
- Paint rainbows on the tub wall.
Glow paint
You need: foaming shaving cream, glow in the dark or fluorescent paint, a container (a silicone muffin pan works great), and paint brushes.
Directions
- Squirt foaming shaving cream in each of the 6 compartments of the muffin tin.
- Add a drop of paint and mix well.
- If you use glow in the dark paint, you will need to charge the paint by a light source before turning out the lights. If you use fluorescent paint you will need a black light.
- Paint on the tub wall.
Kool-Aid Paint (Skittle Scented Rainbow Bath Paint)
You need: foaming shaving cream, 6 packets of different flavored Kool-Aid (Orange, grape, cherry, lime, strawberry, and lemon), a container (a silicone muffin pan works great), and paint brushes.
Directions:
- Squirt foaming shaving cream in each of the 6 compartments of the muffin tin.
- Add part of a packet of Kool-Aid (Orange, grape, cherry, lime, strawberry, and lemon) and mix well. Too much Kool-Aid will make the shaving cream lose its fluff. You may add a bit of extra color for more vibrant colors.
- Mix each color paint separately, combining the corresponding Kool-Aid flavor with shaving cream and the appropriate food color in a bowl.
- Paint on the tub wall and smell the whole rainbow.
Puffy Paint
You need: 1 cup of finely grated soap flakes, about 3/4 C of hot water, liquid watercolors, Ziploc bags, squeeze bottle, a cake frosting tip and a container (a silicone muffin pan works great).
Directions:
- Grate the soap into fine flakes.
- Put the frosting tip in the Ziploc bag.
- Slowly add the hot water to the soap flakes, using your blender, food processor or mixer. The 3/4 C of water is a suggestion, stop once you’ve got a thick but squishy texture. Slowly add the water or you will wind up with only bubbles.
- Use a cake frosting tip Ziploc bag, and a squeeze bottle, to create 3D art in the tub.
- Once the paint is emptied from the bags, finger painting is always an option, getting the squishy texture between fingers.
