Dandridge Elementary School Receives Lowe’s Toolbox for Education Grant for Playground Revitalization Project

$4,000 funding for Dandridge Elementary School Playground Revitalization Project

The Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation has awarded a $4,000 Lowe’s Toolbox for Education® grant to Dandridge Elementary School for the revitalization of the school playground by painting games on asphalt areas.  Dandridge Elementary School is one of more than 350 schools across the United States to be awarded a Lowe’s Toolbox for Education grant for improvement projects during the 2013-2014 school year.

The grant will be used to purchase the Peaceful Playground’s Recess Program.  The Peaceful Playground Recess Program is a system of educational activities that increases physical activity by painting colorful games and activity markings on asphalt.  The kit has almost 100 activity ideas, game rules, training materials and stencils that can be used to paint new games/activities.  The program encourages healthy, educational and purposeful play.  The mission of the Dandridge Elementary School project is to build healthy, happy, active and intellectual youth by painting colorful, cheerful and fun markings for games.  In addition, the school’s vision is to revitalize the school playground area and increase participation of playground activities and outdoor learning.  The games/activities will be painted where portable classroom trailers were previously located.  The project is scheduled to be completed by fall 2014.

“The Lowe’s Toolbox for Education program has benefited more than 5 million schoolchildren since its inception,” said Maureen Ausura, chairman of the Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation. “With the support of Lowe’s Heroes employee volunteers, Lowe’s is committed to continuing to improve the educational environment for students across the country.”
