Jefferson County Budget Committee Action

The Jefferson County Budget Committee held a Called Meeting as a part of the budgeting process on Monday, May 19, 2014 in the Historic Jefferson County Courthouse.  The meeting was Called to Order by Committee Chairman Griffin. Absent from Roll Call were Committee Members Maples and Blevins.  With a Motion from Committee Member Carmichael and 2nd fro Committee Member Akard, the April 22, 2014 Minutes were Approved.

Akard made a Motion to Approve, as a group, seven budget amendments (one fund balance impacting for $6,000-finance department building lease) and was 2nd by Carmichael. The Motion Passed and the meeting stood in Recess to allow the County Commission to convene and bring the proposed amendments to vote.

Following the County Commission meeting, the Budget Committee meeting reconvened. On the agenda were the remaining County Department budget review, as well as capitol projects and debt service. According to the Director of Jefferson County Finance Helton, should the committee allow only mandated increases, the proposed expenditures would total $20,452,218 excluding the Department of Education budget requests. If the Committee entertains requests for non mandated items the total proposed expenditures would be $20,945,405 which would be around $434,223 above last fiscal year’s totals.

The Committee will continue the budgeting process at their next meeting, where it is anticipated that they will begin the narrowing process.
