On Friday, May 9th, Jefferson County sent 60 middle school math students to the annual Pellissippi State Community College Math Competition. Students that attend take a rigorous, 40- problem math test to compete for prizes ranging from $10 to $500 in each grade category. The competition, activities, prizes, and lunch are free with the generous donation from the Oak Ridge Associated Universities. More than 500 of the top math students from East Tennessee participated in this highly competitive competition. Braxton Chaney, a sixth grader from Maury Middle School, placed 18th in the competition and received a $10 Walmart gift card. Congratulations to all participants of the 2014 Middle School Math Competition!
