Corker: Tennessee Families, Businesses Cannot Afford Additional Costly Washington Regulations
U.S. Senator Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) today backed legislation to rein in the administration’s proposed rules on fossil fuel power plants announced earlier this week by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
“Low-cost, reliable energy is essential to driving economic development and job growth, but I’m concerned the president’s proposal will limit our country’s use of abundant resources and increase the cost of energy,” said Corker. “This bill would ensure Tennessee families and businesses are not burdened by costly, heavy-handed Washington regulations.”
The legislation, introduced by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, would require the following benchmarks are met before the president’s climate change rules could take effect:
- The secretary of Labor would have to certify the rules would not generate loss of employment;
- The director of the Congressional Budget Office would have to certify the rules would not result in any loss in U.S. gross domestic product;
- The administrator of the Energy Information Administration would have to certify the rules would not increase electricity rates; and
- The chair of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the president of the North American Electric Reliability Corporation would have to certify that electricity delivery would remain reliable.
