Katy “Fox” Huffaker is announcing her candidacy for a seat representing District 1 on the Jefferson County Commission. Katy was raised in District 1 and returned home to raise her own children in the area that she loves. She is the wife of Keith Huffaker and the daughter of Buford and Nancy Fox.

Katy is a 1988 graduate of Jefferson County High School and has a degree in Biology from the University of Tennessee. She spent the bulk of her professional years in analytical labs working for or in conjunction with the Department of Energy.

“Good analytical and problem solving skills are important in every area of life and especially in positions that make decisions which impact the citizens of Jefferson County on a day to day basis. I hope to bring my professional experience, which centered on finding solutions to problems or questions, to the County Commission.”

Katy is an avid volunteer and believes that it takes active, interested citizens to positively shape the community. She is the PTO President at Dandridge Elementary School, volunteers with Upward Sports Basketball, a member of Dandridge Youth Builders and an active member of the First Baptist Church in Dandridge. Katy was recently awarded the 2013-2014 School Bell Award from JCEA for her dedication and volunteer spirit.

“Jefferson County is important to me. I want my daughters to be raised here and someday my grandchildren so they can experience the sense of community that brought me back home with my husband and family. We need a vision in Jefferson County that will answer the need for jobs and economic growth while keeping the essence of Jefferson County in tact. I believe in quality education and want good roads and public services for our citizens. Growing up here, I am aware of the financial struggles of some in the community and believe that there is a way to provide progress and vision that answers the needs of all of Jefferson County. District 1 is my home and I would proudly serve the citizens of my district if given the opportunity. I am asking for your support and vote in the August 7, 2014 General Election.”
