Evelyn Griffin is annoucing her candidacy for a seat in representing the 5th District as a Jefferson County Commissioner. As a long time resident of Jefferson County she believes that, “Jefferson County is the kind of place that people and businesses should want to move to.” She also believes that thanks to her work in her family’s printing business and her current work as a Community Outreach Worker she has the patience and endurance to perform well as a County Commissioner. Having a degree in Political Science from Carson-Newman University, she feels she is fully capable of solving many of the challenges that come with serving in public office. Evelyn is also involved in the TnAchieves program, where she mentors five 2014 graduates from JCHS who will attend a local two year college or trade school this fall.

“As an outreach worker I have traveled the entire county and talked to many of its residents and I have heard of the many hardships they face. My background in business gives me an understanding of the challenges that a local business faces when it comes to expansion. I am willing to work with the community and the other members of the County Commission so we can find solutions to the many challenges that face our county residents and local businesses.

As a mother and grandmother of young people and students who live in this county I care about the lifestyle and education that is available to them and the other residents of the county. Jefferson County’s future rests in attracting new business opportunities so that our young people can remain a part of the community.

I care about this county and the people who live here, I want my grandchildren to grow up here and have job opportunities that let them live a lifetime in Jefferson County. I would be honored and proud to serve as a commissioner for the 5th District. Please remember to vote on August 7th for me as your 5th District representative.”
