Tusculum Names 99 Student-Athletes to SAC Commissioner’s Honor Roll
Ninety-nine (99) Tusculum College student-athletes have been named to the 2013-2014 South Atlantic Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll announced league officials. The conference had 1,172 student-athletes honored for their achievements in the classroom.
The SAC Commissioner’s Honor Roll recognizes those student-athletes who carry at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average and have completed at least one season in the sports of football, women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, softball, men’s and women’s tennis, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s lacrosse, and men’s and women’s outdoor track & field.
Tusculum’s 99 honorees are the sixth-most of the 12 league members. Lenoir-Rhyne led the way with 137 honorees, followed by Queens (133), Wingate (110), Catawba (108), Newberry (104), Tusculum (99), Anderson (89), Brevard (88), Coker (85), Carson-Newman (79), Mars Hill (78) and Lincoln Memorial (62).
The SAC Commissioner’s Honor Roll showcases the SAC member institutions’ commitment to achieving high levels of success both academically and athletically, as multiple sport-related award winners also garnered the distinction.
Tusculum honorees include 2013-2014 Capital One Academic All-Americans® Lukas Winkelmann (men’s tennis) and Caitlyn Dean (volleyball). Winkelmann was named his sport’s SAC Scholar Athlete, as were David Cooper (men’s cross country) and Ashley Sarmiento (volleyball).
TusculumCollege, located in Greeneville, Tenn., is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church, USA and is a NCAA Division II member of the South Atlantic Conference. Tusculum, the oldest college in the State of Tennessee, sponsors 16 intercollegiate sports, including women’s lacrosse, which will be competing in its first season during the 2014-2015 academic year.
Tusculum, the 28th oldest college in the nation, is a liberal arts institution committed to providing a liberal arts education in a Judeo-Christian and civic arts environment, with pathways for career preparation, personal development and civic engagement. Approximately twenty-one hundred students are enrolled on the main campus in Greeneville and three off-site locations in East Tennessee. The academic programs for both traditional-aged students and working adults served through the Graduate and Professional Studies program are delivered using focused calendars whereby students enroll in one course at a time.
