ROBERT “CAPTAIN BOB” GREENE

ROBERT “CAPTAIN BOB” GREENE, age 79, of Dandridge, TN passed away suddenly Sunday, June 29, 2014 at his home after a brief illness. He was born in Trilby, FL on Nov. 10, 1934, the son of the late, Dewey and Evy (Dyson) Greene. Bob was a graduate of the University of Florida and following graduation he was employed as a food inspector with the Florida Dept. of Agriculture and was a chemist with Kraft Food. He then went on to open “What A Burger” and founded The Hungry Pelican in Palatka, Florida. In 1990, he and his wife Millie founded the popular Dandridge Seafood Restaurant and in 2009 they returned to the restaurant business, founding and opening Captain Bob’s Seafood and Steak. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dandridge. Bob’s first and true love was his wife, Millie, of 35 years. He was a dedicated and passionate restaurant entrepreneur of 50 years, who was known for his “Secret Recipe” for Hushpuppies and a master of seafood and prime rib entrees. He had a loyal following from Florida to Tennessee. His father and grandfather both worked for the Seaboard Coastline Railroad and thus, impressed Bob so much he became an avid model train collector. Since Bob was an only child growing up, he developed a special love for his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Millie Greene; daughter, Terri Durden; son and wife, Robert Durden and Sandy; daughter, Karen Carter; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren;.In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial gifts be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142. Funeral services, Tuesday, July 1, 2014 7:30pm at Farrar Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ronnie Trent officiating.
