How To Ripen Tomatoes Indoors

I really love fresh tomatoes and I used several large pots to grow my own on my deck this year. The trouble is that they are bruising badly when I bring them in and if I pick them early to ripen inside the nats get them. Do you have any suggestions?

Bruising generally comes from trauma to the tomato and can be avoided by gently placing them in a bowl, rather than on a counter top where they might get jostled. If you are trying to ripen green tomatoes inside, placing them in a paper bag and rolling down the top will help them ripen. Do not refrigerate the bag and check the tomatoes daily. If you do refrigerate, bring the tomato to room temperature before cutting to get a more natural flavor.
