Early Voting Closes Low – August 7, 2014 Last Chance To Pull Levers

Twenty one County Commission seats are up for appointment in the August 7, 2014 election cycle. Beyond the unopposed positions, the office of Jefferson County Mayor is also contested and judicial retention is a hot topic in some areas of the State, through it doesn’t seem to be driving voters to the polls in Jefferson County.

Saturday, August 2, 2014 closed early voting in Jefferson County and though there was a push late in the week, totals simply did not reach the August 2010 election early voting totals that seated the current County Commission. In the 2010 election 3,586 voted early and 159 voted absentee, with a total vote, including Election Day, of 7,944. The current election numbers show a total early vote of 3, 391 and 116 of those being absentee or nursing home votes, meaning 2014 election voting numbers are running around 354 behind 2010. Historically, Jefferson County has a close to even split on early voting and election day voting numbers, however the May 2014 Primary Election saw early voting best election day voting by more than 500 votes. Thursday, August 7, 2014 is Election Day in Jefferson County.
