Wyatt Crippen has captured the heart of many residents of Jefferson County and beyond. The young boy, who is fighting his third bout with a debilitating brain tumor, is on the daily prayer list for many local churches. During the many months of treatment, Wyatt has been more stoic than any child should have to be. His friends and family have rallied around him and his family, offering support. The Mount Horeb student wants to just be a normal boy and enjoy the things that most kids take for granted everyday, but his situation and his story highlight just how difficult “normal” can be sometimes. Wyatt’s parents, David and Kristi, keep Wyatt’s supporters informed via facebook and he has a huge following that checks in often for updates.

On Sunday afternoon, Wyatt and a large group of friends and family celebrated his 10th birthday at Dandridge Pizza and More. Walt and Lynn Rosin, owners of Dandridge Pizza and More and Walt’s Hitchin Post, hosted the event and provided pizza for the party. Walt, who lost a daughter to childhood cancer many years ago, said that he knows the fight that Wyatt and his family are fighting and times to celebrate should be enjoyed to the fullest. A Barney Fife impersonator was a big hit with the kids, as was the cake that proudly displayed the number 10. With a big wish, Wyatt blew out his candles and welcomed another year, with a collective wish that this is the best year of his young life.
