Overnight French Toast
Each week, I look forward to Sunday lunch at my mother-in-law’s. It’s a wonderful afternoon spent with family that has become a tradition in the last couple of years, and my mother-in-law always has some amazing food prepared. This week, upon a request from me, she made French toast. It was so good that I had to have the recipe. And now I am sharing it with you.
Ingredients:
¾ cup packed light brown sugar
¼ cup butter, melted
1 loaf French bread, cut into 1 ½” thick slices
1 cup milk
8 eggs
1 T vanilla
1 t cinnamon
¼ t salt
¼ t ground ginger
Powdered sugar, for dusting
Directions:
In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar and butter. Pour into a 9×13” baking dish and spread evenly.
Lay bread slices over sugar mixture cut side up, overlapping if necessary.
In a separate bowl, mix together milk, eggs, vanilla, cinnamon, salt, and ginger until well combined. Pour mixture over bread slices. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight or at least 4 hours.
Preheat oven to 350º. Take dish out of refrigerator and let sit at room temperature about 10 minutes. Bake for 30-35 minutes until top is golden brown. Remove from oven and let cool slightly. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
